P.O & Dist. HOOGHLY, WEST BENGAL - 712 103
Don Bosco School, Bandel, nestling on the banks of river Hooghly, imparting quality education since 1978 belongs to a vast net work of educational establishments across the globe.
These institutions of learning were originally founded by John Bosco, (popularly known as Don Bosco) a catholic priest, born in 1815 in Italy. Born in economically and socially deprived conditions, he grew up without the opportunity of receiving proper education. Exposed to the poor and miserable living conditions of the young people in the city of Turin, Don Bosco, decided to provide them with academic and technical education. What Don Bosco began in 1841 in a simple manner in Turin, Italy has today spread to 133 countries through 2400 institutions. In India alone, there are over 2100 Don Bosco fathers and brothers serving the educational and social needs of the young through 312 institutions. Don Bosco Institutions are involved in providing educational services, technical and non-formal education, vocational education, career oriented programmes, community colleges, social communication, institutions of higher education, working among young at risk like children in the street, child labour, developmental programmes etc. etc… Some of these are also actively involved in W. Bengal.
Don Bosco School Bandel with its motto “knowledge and service” intends to provide quality education to the children of this region and to give them a strong foundation to build up character and value based life. The school which began 1978 with 40 students in Class 5 today has over 2000 students from classes 1 to 12. Ever since the beginning the school has come through various phases of development. Eventually the school came to 10 + 2 level and is affiliated to the ICSE / ISC board, New Delhi. The medium of instruction is English and the students are encouraged to speak only English in the campus. Instilling discipline, acquiring a sense of the Sacred, character formation, development of personal and community values, building up community feeling, commitment to social wellbeing and academic excellence are some of the priorities of this institution. In order to arrive at this target the school has qualified and committed teaching faculty along with other supportive staff.
The school follows the philosophy of education as envisioned by our father and founder Don Bosco which he called the “preventive system”. Reason, religion and loving kindness are the pillars of the educational system founded by Don Bosco and pursued in all Don Bosco establishments across the globe. Don Bosco used to speak of the education of the heart which probably is very relevant today as our society gets more and more fragmented due to various factors.
